Memory check – a recap of things we have covered so far

Q1. What is ISO and what does it effect?
A1. ISO stands for the 'International Standards Organisation'.The ISO effects the cameras sensitivity to light. The lower the ISO number the less sensitive it is to the light and a higher ISO number is more sensitive to the light. The higher the ISO the more 'grainy' the image looks.

Q2. When would we use the ‘P’ control setting on the camera mode dial?
A2. The 'P' control setting on a camera stands for 'Program'. This is used when you are trying to control the white balance and the ISO. 'Program' is usually used when you dont have much time to take the shot or the light keeps changing so you can focus more on composition.

Q3. Name two important consideration when attaching the tripod base-plate to the bottom of camera?
A3.
1) Make sure the base-plate is tight but not too tight.
2) Push the locking lever that is on the back and make sure its in place.

Q4. Name three important considerations when using a red-head lighting kit
A4.
1) Do not touch the barn doors when the light has been on for awhile, after turning it off leave it to cool down for at least 10-15 minutes if not when moving the light the piece in the main light might break.
2) Be careful when crossing next to the wire because it may be a trip hazard, simple hazards such as this can be avoided by just taking your time.
3) Do not bang the red head because the bulb is very easy to break.

Q5. When focusing the camera, what do we place on the object/subject to ensure it is the center of focus?
A5. You have to place the little green rectangle on where you are taking the picture and after focusing the camera by pressing/holding the button half way in keep it held in and adjust where you are aiming your camera to apply to the rule of thirds

Q6. Name two techniques we can use to adjust the brightness and contrast of a photograph?
A6.
1) Curves and levels - Using curves and levels will effect the contrast and lighting of a image which could make your image be even more successful.
2) Exposure - You can use aperture (the 'A' setting) to adjust the brightness of an image, if your image you are trying to take is too bright you can make it smaller and if its too dark you can make it larger to let more light in.
